Learn about energy sustainability and receive hands-on assistance to apply for funding energy efficient upgrades to your community building.

Registration is now open for the first workshop. At the first workshop, you will be able to register for the other 3 workshops.

 Tuesday September 27
Greening Your Neighbourhood: A workshop on community sustainability planning

This session will start with an introduction the Edmonton’s Community Energy Transition Strategy and Report on the Environment. From there group will be challenged to identify the sustainability goals they trying to reach and what projects/initiatives will get them there. What are their values? How far does the group want to go? Riverdale Community League will share its sustainability journey with the group.

Tuesday October 4
Here Comes the Sun: The basics of solar photovoltaic (PV)

An introduction to the renewable energy technology and how it could be implemented in a league building or household. This session will cover a basic introduction to how the technology works, the economics, connecting/selling power to the grid. The Solar Power Investment Cooperative of Edmonton will deliver this workshop.

Tuesday October 11
Saving Energy, Saving Carbon, Saving Money: An introduction to energy efficiency
An exploration of the easily adopted electrical energy efficiency upgrades that could be undertaken by leagues, including efficient lighting in the building and rinks, light sensors, emergency lighting, power bars, etc. The energy audits process will be covered, as will a discussion about benchmarking building energy performance so that leagues can compete against one another to improve their building’s energy efficiency.

Paying for Your Dreams: Funding your energy transition project

A workshop dedicated to discussing the different funding sources, such as the Community Leagues Infrastructure Program Grant, EcoCity Edmonton, new Provincial Solar Program, Enmax appliance program, etc. that are available to leagues to pay for these upgrades. The session will be hands on and we will focus on actually understanding the funding process by filling out funding applications on site.

Energy Transition Ambassadors

Those who attend all four workshops will receive a certificate acknowledging them as Energy Transition ambassadors for their neighbourhood.

Ambassadors will be encouraged to hold their own public friendly events related to solar energy and energy efficiency. They will also be invited to future learning events and to volunteer for City Environmental Strategies events.
